(ANSAmed) - BEIRUT, MARCH 7 - It is now easier for unmarried Lebanese men and women to find their "other half," with opening of the first marriage agency in the country, Pom D'Amour. Pom D'Amour, which opened two months ago, already has 50 registered clients aged between 25 and 65, belonging to various religions. Most of whom are women in search of a faithful partner. "The idea for the agency was born last June, during the war between Israel and Hezbollah, when friends of mine kept telling me they were afraid of dying alone," Solange Sraih, Pom D'Amour owner, told ANSAmed. However, Pom D'Amour mainly aims to attract the attention of numerous Lebanese men who fled the war-torn country and want to marry a woman from their homeland. Apart from the criticism of conservative members of Lebanese society, the main obstacle to the agency's work is the lack of legislation concerning marriage agencies which should protect this type of activity and its clients. However, Solange Sraih is considered a pioneer mainly for challenging a taboo in a country where all aspects related to marriage and coupledom are regulated by family customs and religious norms. In order to register for the Pom D'Amour agency, women pay an annual fee of USD 200 while men pay USD 400. "The difference in price comes from the fact that a man ready to pay this money to a marriage agency demonstrates seriousness and willingness to find a real and stable relationship. This system limits the access of those seeking flirtation," Solange said. The agency works following strict rules. "Before the fee is paid we make the necessary appointments to check whether the clients are single, divorced or widowed. This is necessary in such a conservative country. Pom D'Amour is a serious agency, it is not for those who are looking for adventures," Solange Sraih said. (ANSAmed).
